The six students suspect behind the Sunday night inferno that razed down a dormitory at Maranda High School will remain in custody until 23rd November 2021 to allow for investigations to be completed.
This comes after a Bondo court granted an application by Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to hold the students for a further 14 days to enable them conduct thorough investigations.
The students aged between 16 and 18 years had their request to be granted bond quashed by Bondo Law Court Resident Magistrate (RM) Stella Mathenge who directed that they be held at Bondo Police Station’s Children Protection Unit as they are minors.
In the application presented by Corporal Suleiman Opondo, the DCI stated that granting the students Bondo will jeopardize the investigations.
Opondo revealed that the six, who are the main suspects in the fire incident, were adversely mentioned by fellow students and therefore would be handy in giving more information on what transpired during the Sunday incident.
He said that the Ministry of Education is concerned with rampant fire incidents that have hit schools across the country and thorough investigation was therefore necessary to bring those involved to book.
