Schools in Samburu experienced low turnout in form one admission due to poor livestock prices and shrink livestock bodies following a devastating drought experienced in both Samburu East and Samburu.

In Samburu, 80% of pastoralists depend entirely on livestock sale to pay school fees of their children.

“At times, we get here in the morning and not sell anything. I do not know how my children will go to school. I am a desperate man,’ lamented Joseph Lengisho, a resident from Samburu East.

County Executive Committee Member in charge of Education Mr. Stephen Lekupe said learning in this county has been heavily affected by the prevailing drought as most of the parents depend on their livestock to educate their children.

Lekupe expressed concern about the implementation of 100% transition in the county saying most of the parents can’t afford to pay fees with no sale of livestock.
