Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) officials have hit out at the former secretary general Mr Wilson Sossion who they claimed has hatched to a plot to destabilize the new office bearers and the union.

Led by the secretary general, Mr.Collins Oyuu, they told Sossion to keep off the union affairs now that he was a stranger since he was neither a teacher nor  member.

Speaking during the burial of the father of Mr Kennnedy Nyamwanda who is the Assistant National Treasurer at Ikonge primary school in North Mugirango constituency in Nyamira county, Oyuu also warned Sossion against commenting on matters touching on KNUT.

“Sossion should stop dreaming and at no any given time  he could  be back to the helm of the union leadership to run its affairs. Let him now concentrate on his new life as a nominated Member of Parliament, ” he told the mourners .

The secretary general  recounted that during Sossion’s tenure as the SG, teachers lost a lot in terms of promotions and salary increase  because he created  a rift and bad relationship with the Teachers Service Commission ,the Ministry of Education (MEO) and the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection.

He assured the Kenyan teachers that the first agenda of the new office bearers was to restore back confidence, respect  and relationship with TSC, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Labour which had been eroded during  Sossion’s tenure .

“For the few months we have been in office, we have managed to hold  successful meetings  with Educations CS, Prof.George Magoah, Labour CS Simon Chelugei and TSC CEO Nacy Macharia geared at  mending  the bad and poor  relationship teachers and union others that had been ignited by Sossion ” he stated.

He further challenged the three institutions to respect and work closely with teachers if education standards have to be realized.

He also defended the CBA which they recently signed, saying that was the beginning of bigger things to come and dismissed those who were opposed it.

“CBA is not an event which is done at once and concluded, but a process. Next time when we meet, the CBA could  be reviewed and revised and I want to ask our teachers to watch our steps,” he added .

The KNUT national vice chairman, Mr Stanley Mutai asked teachers who had left the union to rejoin again so that the union can get more backing when addressing their issues.
