A high powered security intelligence team in Homa-Bay County managed to nab a key figure believed to be a serious architect of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam leakage in Western Kenya region.

Homa- Bay County Commissioner Moses Lilan revealed that the suspect, a secondary school teacher was arrested in lakeside town of Mbita in Suba South constituency.

“The suspect is a 32 years old teacher attached at a school known as Nyagwethe Secondary School in Suba region of Homa-Bay County,” he revealed.

The mastermind is reportedly involved in ferrying the KCSE exam cheating papers to the adjacent regions of Nyamira, Kisii, Migori and Homa-Bay Counties.

“We managed to track the suspect and finally caught up with him at his hideout, he was temporarily detained at the local police station in Mbita town and later moved to the County’s police headquarters in Homa-Bay town as the investigations continue before his arraignment in a court of law to answer to the charges,” stated the County Commissioner.

The unscrupulous ring of exam cheating is connected to individuals in Nairobi who wire the papers through mobile telephones before they are sent to an organized network throughout the region.

Warned Lilan “The County security apparatus is on high alert and anybody thinking of trying to sell fake papers will be met with accordingly. The government puts a lot of emphasis on exam integrity and will not spare anyone.”

Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha hard stance on exam irregularities has so far seen 832 fake exam materials seized since the exam period started.
