Police in Nyamira County have started investigations on the cause of the death of a standard eight girl.

Esther Mikas from Kiabiraa sub location allegedly committed suicide at her home.

According to her younger brother, the girl looked jovial until Monday afternoon when she disappeared suddenly from their homestead.

Their mother had left the home to search for daily household needs.

When the brother became impatient, he tried to look for the sister around the home but was surprised to find her body hanging from the roof behind their house.

He raised alarm and attracted the villagers.

When the mother came home, she was stunned to see a crowd of people in her compound.

She broke into tears and collapsed. She was taken to hospital where she was treated and discharged.

The body of the girl was taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital for postmortem pending further investigations.

The Hospital Chief Executive Officer Dr. Enock Ondari confirmed the body had strains on the neck and suspected strangling.

Kisii County Commissioner Mr. Allan Macharia flanked by County Police Commander Jabel Munene were among the first people to visit the home to console with the family.

The County boss advised parents to be near their adolescent sons and daughters to assist them during their critical conditions of emotional and physical development.
