Seven pregnant girls sit KCSE exams in hospitals

Seven pregnant girls from Nyamira County are among the form four candidates sitting for their national examinations in the country this year.

Briefing the Education News, Nyamira County Director of Education Mrs Margaret Mwirigia said the girls are from St.Mathias Mulumba and Egetonto secondary schools.

The director added that the other five girls are from different schools from Nyamira North Sub-county.

The first two expectant young mothers she revealed were doing their examinations from Nyamira Teaching and Referral Hospital.

The remaining ones were sent to Nyansiongo, Ekerenyo and Keroka hospitals because they are near to their homes.

She assured them of good care until they finish their examinations.

However Nyamira county Commissioner Amos Mariba condemned the girls who got pregnant when they are in school.

The administrator thanked the government for giving pregnant girls a second chance to continue with their education because that was the best option for their rehabilitation.

He asked the government to introduce rules where pregnant girls should not be allowed to go back to school unless they produced the persons responsible for the pregnancies.

This measure he said, will bar the girls and boys from being careless with their bodies.
