A Grade Three pupil in Ndaka-ini Primary School  in Gatanga, Murang’a County allegedly committed suicide after he was sent home from school because he was found with a 20-shilling coin.

Samsom Karangu was reportedly sent away after he and his desk mate were each found with Sh20 with which they planned to buy potato chips at a food kiosk.

The head teacher, Stanley Muturi, said he intended to inform their parents that their children had come to school with money and whether they knew the source.

“The matter was reported to a teacher by fellow pupils who claimed the two always had money to buy chips,” said Muturi.

He said one of the boys came back with his parent and the matter was resolved.

Muturi was, however, shocked to learn later that the lifeless body of the other boy had been found hanging from a tree.

Gatanga sub-county police chief Benson Muchemi said the matter was under investigation and police were interrogating pupils and teachers.
