Rongo MP Paul Abuor says parents should discipline their children to help curb frequent student unrest in schools.
He said all education stakeholders must work together to ensure that students remain disciplined.
“Students too must explore dialogue with their teachers to enable their tutors address their problems amicably instead of riots,” added Abuor.
The MP said the government struggles to provide adequate resources in schools to enhance availability of education to all its children especially those from humble families.
He was speaking to Education News in Rongo over the weekend after he delivered 50 mattresses and blankets for students who dormitory was burned at Koderobara Boys High School.
National Parents Association Migori Branch Chairman Peter Odondi blamed the unrest on peer pressure.
He agreed that most parents have failed to play their parental responsibilities effectively despite spending ten months with their children at home during the prolonged holidays.
Odondi urged parents to support teachers instead of exhibiting negative attitude towards them and school administrators, which is a bad influence for learners.
