Kuppet tells Knut to drop charges against TSC

By Erick Nyayiera

The Kenya Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) has urged the Kenya National Union Teachers (Knut) Chairman Wilson Sossion to drop all charges against the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

Kuppet National Chairman Omboko Milemba said Sossion should embrace dialogue with TSC if he wants Knut to thrive again.

He said Knut risks losing all its members unless its leadership softens their stand and drops all the charges it has against the TSC.

Omboko was speaking during the launch of  Sh7.1 million welfare bus for Siaya KUPPET  Branch.

He said he was ready to lend a hand in resolving the impasse pitting Knut against TSC.

“It’s so regrettable that more than 200,000 teachers who exited KNUT are still confused and their fate hangs in balance so it’s a dialogue between Knut leadership and TSC that would save them,” Omboko stated.

He added “We do not want KNUT to die, my brother Sossion ought to swallow his pride, withdraw all the cases in court and sit down with TSC, reach an agreement and have all teachers removed from the union back,” said Omboko.

Flanked by Siaya Branch Kuppet Executive Secretary Sam Opondo, Omboko said he doesn’t back the idea of KNUT joining Kuppet as that would ruin dreams they had for their members.

“Kuppet was registered to run affairs of the teachers in the Post Primary Education and Secondary school institutions as laid down in the Labour Relations Act,” he said.

Consequently, he added they don’t intend to invite Knut members to their union as doing so would make Knut lose the dream of representing their sector.
