Residents of Namirembe Village in Bungoma South sub-county are reeling in shock after a Form Four student at Kisuluni Secondary school killed his father.

Bernard Khapwondi, 46, is said to have been attacked for allegedly failing to give his 19-year-old son Brian Sh30,000 which was his share in a land sale deal.

“They sold part of their land but the father failed to honour his promise to give his son his Sh30,000 share,” said Peter Nyongesa, a cousin to Brian.

Eyewitnesses said the father raised the alarm when the son attacked him but neighbours arrived too late.

“Our neighbours helped us to take him to Makuti Nzoia Medical Centre,” said Consolata Khapwondi, a sister to the deceased.

He was referred to Bungoma Referral Hospital but died on arrival.

The assailant and a friend were arrested and detained at Namirembe Police Station, but the police had to transfer them to Sangálo Police Station when an angry crowd threatened to lynch them.

The body was transferred to Bungoma County Referral Mortuary.
