Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has now been accused of being behind the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) flagging fortunes.
Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago has said that Raila, who has been blaming the Teachers Service Commission for KNUT’s woes, “killed” KNUT by nominating Secretary General Wilson Sossion to Parliament.
“It is the Opposition leader Raila Odinga who killed KNUT by nominating the Secretary General Wilson Sossion to Parliament. How do you expect a person with two jobs to serve the interests of teachers?” posed the Governor.
He added: “KNUT was killed the very day Sossion was nominated to Parliament. He is on record demanding abnormal pay increases,” Mandago said.
The Governor claimed the once giant union had been brought to its knees by poor leadership and asked teachers to kick out the secretary general.
“When I shared a podium with the KNUT secretary general in Uasin Gishu, I told him that he must demand things which are reasonable and that you don’t always have to get everything that you demand. If you want 50 per cent and they offer 10 per cent just take it. I told him the union was going to collapse,” said Mandago.
