The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has reaffirmed its commitment to championing better working conditions, career progression, and recognition for educators across the country.
Union leaders pledged during a homecoming ceremony for newly elected Kericho KUPPET Executive Secretary Clara Chebet, where teachers were praised for their central role in national development. Chebet said teachers deserve improved welfare, promotions, and dignified working environments, noting that their contribution to shaping future generations must remain a national priority.
“Our teachers work tirelessly to nurture future generations. Their welfare should remain a national priority, and we shall continue defending their rights,” she told the gathering. Chebet also urged KUPPET officials to embrace unity and teamwork to serve members effectively, while thanking teachers for entrusting her with leadership.
She commended the government’s ongoing efforts to address challenges facing educators, including welfare and promotion issues. Her sentiments were echoed by Mary Rotich, the newly elected KUPPET National Assistant Treasurer, who confirmed that the union is holding consultations with government officials on promotions and other matters affecting teachers.

“We appreciate the government’s commitment and the ongoing engagement aimed at addressing teachers’ concerns,” Rotich said. She described Chebet as a focused and determined leader, adding that her election reflects growing confidence in women’s leadership within the union.
President’s Adviser on Great Lakes Affairs Charles Keter also addressed the ceremony, thanking teachers for embracing dialogue and assuring them of the government’s commitment to finding lasting solutions. “The government is keen to work closely with teachers and their union to address the issues affecting the profession through dialogue,” Keter said.
