37 Commonwealth Masters, PhD scholarships for Kenyan scholars

It is a huge boost for Kenyan graduates from recognized universities in the country after the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) in the United Kingdom announced an offer for eighteen (18) PhD and nineteen (19) Masters full scholarships to Kenyan citizens tenable in 2024.

In a notice through the Ministry of Education, State Department for Higher Education and Research and seen by Education News, online applications for the scholarships will be opened on Tuesday, 5th September 2023 and close on Tuesday, 17th October 2023.

The study areas for the scholarships offered are; Agriculture, Health care, Housing and Settlement, Digital and creative economy, Transforming Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.

For one to qualify for the scholarship they must show proof of Kenyan citizenship, a Bachelor’s degree, at least 2nd class upper division from a recognized university with a strong academic background, and supporting statements from two (2) referees. 

They should also submit a proposal in the area of study clearly showing the potential impact on the development of Kenya as well as the Quality Study Plan.

For Ph. D. study, applicants are required to have the following, Proof of Kenyan citizenship, a Master’s Degree from a recognized university with a strong academic background, supporting statements from two (2) referees, one supporting statement from a supervisor in a UK Institution, a proposal in the area of study clearly showing the potential impact on the development of Kenya as well as Quality Study Plan.

Then, they will be required to complete the Standard Scholarship Application Form. 

Attach the required certified supporting documents (certified photocopies of ID, academic/ professional certificates, transcripts, Birth Certificate, Passport, and other testimonials), a proposal in the area of study and a copy of the online submitted CSC application form.

For the applicants, it’s important to note that nomination does not in any way guarantee selection or placement.
