Women Rep decries high number of teachers molesting students

By Ongondi Nyakundi

Nyamira county Woman Representative Mrs. Jerusa Momanyi has expressed disappointment and great concern over the high number of teachers defiling students.

Momanyi urged the police to up their game and ensure all teachers who engage in such heinous acts are arrested and face the law.

She lamented that teachers engaging in such acts shouldn’t even be in the teaching profession and urged TSC to sack and deregister them.

“A teacher engaging in such acts is a beast who shouldn’t be allowed to get closer to girls,” she stated.

She was speaking after a deputy head teacher (40 years old) defiled a ten year old in Borabu constituency. The teacher has since been arrested and arraigned in a court in Keroka where he was denied bond until November 27, 2022 when his application will be considered.

The women rep warned police officers and parents against compromising justice by settling defilement cases out of courts.

“Any person found protecting the defilers should be prepared to meet the wrath of women from the entire county,” she warned, adding that there are so many mature women looking for men yet the said men opt for minors who can’t make sane decisions.

In other news, a secondary school teacher at Magonga Secondary School was yesterday arrested and arraigned in a Nyamira court for defiling a student.
