A middle aged woman has been sentenced to a three – year- jail term for dumping her six weeks old twin babies outside a church in Migori County.
Rongo Resident Magistrate Raymond Langat told Maurine Achieng that she abandoned the children next to the SDA Church in Kadera Kuoyo Sub location, North Sakwa, Awendo Sub County.
She was found guilty of having contravened the Child Care and Protection Act when she abandoned the twins on March 20th last year.
“Having carefully considered all the evidence and the relevant principles of law, heard all the witnesses and that agreed that proper investigations were conducted by the prosecution, the accused person warrants her imprisonment,” said Langat.
Achieng was arrested on August 27th 2019 at Rongo Children’s office where she appeared with Emanuel Were who claimed to be the children’s father.
A DNA test later proved that the man was not related to the children but Achieng was the mother, hence her arrest and prosecution.
The accused person has 14 days to appeal against the case if not satisfied with the ruling of the court.
