Kisii University students, led by the Kisii Young Professionals club chaired by Douglas Ogari, have eulogized World Marathon record holder, Kelvin Kiptum, as a man whose death has dealt a great blow within and beyond the country.
In a condolence message to the family, leader Eric Nyoteyo said that he was saddened to learn the demise of the hero who positively impacted the lives of athletics enthusiasts in education institutions and the world at large.
Police reports indicated that Kiptum perished in a road accident together with his Coach, Gervais Hakizimana, on Sunday night along the Eldoret-Kaptagat road.
Elgeyo Marakwet Police County Commander Peter Mulinge confirmed the fatal road accident.
According to Athletics Kenya (AK), the late Kiptum had been slated to join Kenya’s Olympics team heading for Paris later this year.
