University Students from Bonchari Constituency have thanked President William Ruto for his decision to reverse the planned demolition of Suneka Airstrip to pave way for the construction of affordable housing project on the field.
Led by Johnson Karani, the students said the early plan by the government to convert the airstrip land into a site for the affordable house would have marred the historical setting of the Air strip that was established during the early days of this country’s independence. “He said.
They said once the Airstrip, fully operationalized, transportation of people and goods will be ease, opening the region of economic development.

The students spoke shortly after Kisii County Governor Simba Atati and Kenya Airport Authority (KAA) Caleb Koisatany visited the Airstrip to inspect its renovation and re-commissioning scheduled to take place soon.
The students regretted on the negligence and demolishing of important historical sites like Kisii hotel, Mwanyagetinge Estate, Getembe shrine ( Getembe Kiagasuku) and appealed to Kisii County Government to preserve them for the historical purpose for the posterity.
