St. Pius Uriri Boys has been closed indefinitely following recent fire incidences that led to lose of property worth millions of shillings in the school.
This decision was prompted by the recent fire inferno that razed a 91 capacity dormitory in the school that occurred barely one month after a two story dormitory building was destroyed by fire in the same institution.
Confirming the incidence Uriri sub-county police Commander Peter Njoroge said the school has now been closed for one week to quell tension in the school and to also to allow ease of investigations.
He added that the education stakeholders will meet to deliberate on the issue before the students are recalled back to school.
“We are still carrying out investigation to know the root cause of the fire and anybody found guilty will have to face the law,” said Njoroge.
The commander added that they had come across several allegations on the cause including retaliation from the students to the administration for baring them to mingle with another girl’s school and also not being allowed to watch AFCON match between Kenya and Algeria team however they are yet to establish the claims.
However some of the parents who arrived at the school after receiving news on the incidence accused the schools’ administration saying it had failed to resolve issues that prompted the two dormitory fires claiming the administration was so reluctant since they had not even been called to the school over the first incident to help resolve the matter.
The school Principal Nicholas Hongo however declined commenting on the issue adding that it had already been handed over to the police and investigations are ongoing.
