University of Embu student stabbed to death in suspected robbery

A wave of grief has swept through the University of Embu after a student was fatally stabbed in what police suspect was a robbery on Saturday night.

The victim, identified as Erick Cheruiyot, was attacked while walking home from the institution.

Preliminary reports indicate that the assailants confronted him in an attempt to steal his mobile phone. Witnesses say the incident occurred late in the evening, and during the confrontation, the attackers stabbed him, leaving him critically injured. Efforts to save his life proved unsuccessful.

The shocking death has sparked outrage and anxiety among students and residents, who are now raising alarm over escalating insecurity around the university and its surrounding areas. Many learners described Erick as humble, disciplined, and focused, lamenting that his life was cut short just as he was pursuing his education.

Authorities have since launched investigations and are pursuing the suspects believed to be behind the attack. Police have assured the public that measures are being taken to enhance security in the area.
