The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has dismissed as fake a letter circulating online purporting to appoint a teacher to a secondary school in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
The letter, dated September 2025, was addressed to Gideon Kipkogei Korir of Kipsoen Boys High School. It claimed to be an official appointment to the position of Secondary Teacher II. It was allegedly signed on behalf of the Secretary/Chief Executive of TSC, Evaleen Mitei.
The letter promised a salary of KSh 524,328 per annum, subject to acceptance, and outlined duties, conditions of service, and termination procedures. It was also copied to the TSC County Director, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
However, the document carried glaring inconsistencies and has since been stamped “FAKE.”

A senior TSC official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said: “Teachers should verify any appointment or deployment letters directly with TSC offices. Fraudsters are taking advantage of job seekers, and we urge the public not to fall victim.”
Education stakeholders in Elgeyo Marakwet also condemned the circulation of fake documents.
“This is a wake-up call to our teachers. Only trust communication that comes through official TSC channels, not forwarded letters or social media uploads,” said a county union representative.
The Commission has urged applicants and serving teachers to cross-check their employment status through its official website, county offices, or verified communication lines to avoid being duped by fraudulent schemes.
