The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has placed Peter Albert Ayiroi, a teacher from Alliance Girls High School, on mandatory leave following serious allegations of sexual misconduct involving students.
The suspension, effective July 15, 2025, will remain in place for a 30-day period during which investigations will be conducted.
Ayiroi is accused of breaching various provisions of the TSC Act and the Code of Regulations for Teachers (CORT).
TSC cited his involvement in acts and omissions classified as professional misconduct, allegedly carried out while serving as a teacher at the prestigious girls’ national school
“It has been alleged that you have breached Clause (a) of the Third Schedule to the Teachers Service Commission Act, Regulation 141 of the CORT and Clause 22 of the Code of Conduct and Ethics… You engaged in acts and omissions that amount to professional misconduct,” the commission stated in its suspension letter.
The allegations, first brought to light by Africa Uncensored, have triggered public outrage and last week, concerned alumni and parents staged a peaceful protest outside the school premises, calling for swift disciplinary measures and legal intervention.

The TSC explained that the suspension is not punitive at this stage. Ayiroi will continue receiving full salary and benefits during the investigation. The commission emphasised that the outcome of the inquiry will be shared with him once it is concluded.
“Due to the gravity of these allegations and the need to conduct independent and impartial investigations… the Commission has decided to send you on Compulsory Leave for 30 days with effect from July 15, 2025,” the letter reads.
The suspension follows intense demands from the Principal Secretary for Basic Education, Prof. Julius Bitok, who asked the immediate arrest and prosecution of the teacher. He reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy on any form of sexual abuse within schools.
“That teacher is going to be punished and interdicted. We have talked to TSC and all other stakeholders to ensure that he is arrested. No teacher has any business pursuing inappropriate relationships with learners. Any breach of trust will be met with swift disciplinary and legal action,” said PS Bitok.
While supporting the move, Bitok clarified that TSC is a constitutionally independent body and does not report directly to the Ministry of Education. Nonetheless, he affirmed that the Ministry, TSC, and school stakeholders are working jointly to ensure accountability.
