TSC offices locked over Sh2.3 million rent arrears

Operations at the Teachers Service Commission Migori branch offices have been paralysed for two days after the offices were locked down by the proprietor over 18 months’ rent arrears.

Teachers and clients who visited the offices at Msomi Teachers College in the outskirts of Migori town were stranded after the building, owned by Pentecostal Evangelical Assembly (PEFA) Church, was locked over Sh2.3 million arrears.

In a letter addressed to TSC headquarters, through the County Director Beatrice Lukalo, the landlord demanded payment dating back to July 2019.

“Dear madam, please find our invoice no 2112 being payment of rent as from 1st July 2019 up to 31st December which is a total of 18 months as per the request of extension of lease agreement posted to us on 1st July 2020,” read part of the letter.

“This brings to a total of Sh2,373,373 including the amount in arrears of  the past quarter. Kindly arrange and clear all these since it is long overdue,” the letter read further.

When contacted, Lukalo said she was not aware of the development since she had been working from home since the outbreak of Covid-19.

“Let me do a follow up since I have not been operating from the office since the outbreak of Covid-19. It was recommended that I remain at home due to my age bracket,” she told Education News on phone.

The main entrance to the second floor that houses TSC offices and all the doors were locked with huge padlocks.
