TSC institutional heads to open new e-mail accounts

By Roy Hezron.

Institutional heads have been urged to open institutions e-mail accounts by May this year apart from their personal e-mail account in a move that has seen Teachers Service Commission (TSC) digitize its services provision.

In the latest development, TSC has directed the Heads of institutions to open a separate head-of-institution email apart from the official personal account, which will be available to subsequent heads of institutions for continuity when the heads either retire or transferred to another institution.

In a Circular dated February 15, 2021 the Commission has directed all the Heads and teachers to activate their e-mail accounts, a process which started on February 15, 2021 with April 30, 2021 being the set deadline for the activation process.

“All Heads of Institutions and teachers including those on internship are required to activate their email accounts provided on the platform and use it for all communications to the Commission. The official email will take the format of the teacher’s name, the last two digits of the TSC number @mwalimu.tsc.go.ke,” reads the circular in part signed by the Commission CEO and Secretary Dr. Nancy Macharia.

This means from May this year, all emails outside the commission set platform would not be acted upon.

The circular was sent to all Directors of Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA), Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) and Kenya Institute for the Blind, Principals of Teachers Training Colleges and Secondary Schools, Head Teachers, and all teachers.

In addition, the Heads of institutions have been further directed to update the teachers official email address and registered personal mobile phone number in the Teacher Management Information System (TMIS) within 30 days after all teachers in the institution have activated their emails.
