Transferred head teachers told to handover offices

Principals and head teachers from Samburu County have been advised to officially handover their offices to new heads after their transfers to other institutions within and outside the county.
While speaking at AIC Moi Girls Secondary School, in Maralal town, Samburu Central Sub County during a teachers’ training ahead of enforcement of delocalization of schools’ heads, Samburu County’s Teachers Service Commission director Suleiman Odipo said handing over of offices to new heads is important as it would enable them smoothly run the schools after taking over.
He revealed that some teachers could be afraid of handing over schools during their transfers as they cannot account for huge sums of money they borrowed from financial institutions to build school infrastructure and buy school buses.
“What we have noted is that some heads when they are transferred from one school to another, they do not properly hand over leaving a lot of money and debts which cannot be accounted for and that is compromising integrity,” said Odipo.
He warned that teachers who will not hand over their schools properly leaving behind unexplained huge debts during transfers would be followed up for accountability.
The TSC boss welcomed a decision by Government to have principals and head teachers transferred to work in schools located in other counties away from their home counties.
