Tragic road accident along Kipsonoi River in Bomet claims life of school pupil

A tragic road accident occurred on Monday evening along the Kipsonoi River stretch of the Bomet–Konoin road, claiming the life of a young pupil from Skymaster Academy.

According to preliminary reports, the vehicle involved, belonging to Bomet County Women Representative Linet Chepkorir, was travelling towards Bomet when the incident happened.

The child, who had been heading home from school, was attempting to cross the road when she was struck by the vehicle.

Passersby and motorists quickly alerted authorities and emergency responders, and the injured child was rushed to Kapkoros Hospital in Bomet Central sub-county in critical condition.

Despite efforts by medical personnel, the pupil succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival.

At the time of the accident, the women’s representative was in Kericho, having travelled ahead of the vehicle.

The driver, who was en route to Bomet, immediately reported the matter to Silibwet Police Station, where the case is currently being investigated by traffic and criminal investigations officers.

Bomet County traffic officials say investigations are underway to determine the exact circumstances that led to the collision, including whether speed, visibility, or pedestrian safety measures along the road played a role.

Police have urged motorists and pedestrians alike to exercise extra caution when crossing busy highways.

Local leaders and residents have expressed shock and sorrow at the loss of the young pupil, with calls for enhanced road safety measures around school zones and dangerous road stretches frequented by children and pedestrians.
