Residents of Nyakungu village in Bonyando sub location are in shock following a devastating fire outbreak that killed a mother and her three children aged 9, 10 and 12.
Police reports reveal that the tragic incident happened at Juma Onderi’s home after the family retired for the night.
The fire is believed to have originated in one of the rooms. A one year old boy suffocated and was rushed to the nearby Nyangena hospital for immediate medical attention. The rest of the family was pronounced dead.
He is currently recuperating at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Confirming the incident, Kisii county commander Charles Kases said the cause of the fire remains unknown and investigations are ongoing.
Bodies of the deceased have been taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital awaiting autopsy.
