Three long-serving Ministry of Education directors retire

A number of senior directors at the Ministry of Education (MoE) have retired after a long reign in the public service.

Education News has learnt that Ms. Nereah Olick, who has been the Director for Basic Education and her deputy, Moses Karati have all retired and officially left office in June 2023 after attaining their retirement age.

Before being posted to the Ministry headquarters on promotion, Olick was the Western Regional Director of Education (RDE) while Karati was plucked from Baringo where he was the County Director of Education (CDE).

Also retiring is Moriasi Gari who has been the Director for Early Childhood Education. Gari was earlier the Central Deputy Regional Director before being elevated to the position he is vacating from.

Moses N. Karati, now former Deputy Director for Basic Education.

Insiders who spoke to Education News say that the Ministry is yet to fill the posts and the departmental deputy directors have been asked to act on the positions pending appointment of substantive holders.

Early this year, MoE recalled several field officers to Jogoo House in a major shake-up that saw most CDEs and RDEs moved from their stations.

It is understood some of the officers are yet to be assigned proper duties at the Ministry headquarters months after their transfers.

During the exercise, some directors were promoted while others were posted to less glamorous positions in what was perceived as demotions.
