A heartbreaking incident occurred at Kwa Munyenze Dam in Koma, where three young girls tragically drowned while doing laundry yesterday evening.

The victims, a Form One student, a Grade Six pupil, and a Grade Three pupil, were found lifeless in the dam under mysterious circumstances.

Kinyau Assistant Chief Juliana Katumbi confirmed the incident, expressing deep sorrow over the loss.

She said that the oldest girl was a student at Kinyui Girls High School while the others were in nearby primary school.

The chief added that the circumstances surrounding the deaths are still a mystery.

“The sequence of events is still a mystery,” she said. “However, it is suspected that one child may have drowned initially, and the others died while attempting to save her.”

She warned that dams are full and parents should not send their kids unattended to avert such incidents.

“I don’t know if these three were sent by their parent or not. There was a boy who did not enter the dam and was found safe in the area. I urge parents to be careful and remember that the rains may have gone but water bodies are full and this may pose danger to our kids,” she said.
