Teachers turn up for interviews to fill 3,313 promotion slots

Thousands of teachers across the country began trooping to various venues across the country to attend scheduled Teachers Service Commission (TSC) promotional interviews which started today.

The exercise which ends on Friday this week saw the first batch of teachers at Grade D2 to D3 (TSC Scale 12-13) who mainly include deputy principals of County and Extra-County schools, as well as those serving as principals in day schools.

Education News has learnt that a good number of deputy principals of secondary schools who are at Grade D1 to D2 are lined up to attend the interviews tomorrow.

On Friday, the last day of the programme, teachers at Grades C3, C4 and C5 who are mainly deputy head teachers and senior teachers at various primary schools will report for the exercise.

They will be expected to appear before panelists who comprise of County Directors, Deputy Directors and Sub County Directors.

TSC re-advertised the positions on May 25, 2023 after teachers strangely failed to express interest in the slots.

The educators were then given 9 days to make applications online to fill 3,313 positions for Principals, Deputy Principals and Deputy Head Teachers in secondary and primary schools.

The promotions had earlier been advertised between January and March this year but did not attract interest from qualified teachers.

TSC was forced to do another attempt albeit with some alterations softening on some requirements to get more tutors to express interest.

The commission was allocated Ksh1.1 billion to cater for promotion of teachers under the current Budget though it had requested for Ksh3 billion.
