Teacher wounded by colleagues in Kisii on path to recovery

A teacher in Kenyenya Sub-county, nursing serious wounds inflicted by colleagues after a night drinking spree, is slowly coming to terms with the events that led to his hospitalization.

According to eye witnesses, the teachers left Magena Sports Ground where they had accompanied their students for Term One ball games.

Later they walked into an entertainment joint on the outskirts of Ogembo town where they had a good time until past midnight when one of them, inebriated, rode himself home in his friend’s car without his knowledge.

When the rest of the gang were done partying and wanted to retire home, they could not find the car. Alarmed, they called their colleague who obviously was fast asleep by now.

So they trekked to his home, only to be greeted by barking dogs, which incidentally helped to wake the teacher up. But then he came out armed with a spear, perhaps thinking they were thieves in the night.

They overpowered him anyway, and beat him senseless with the broken spear. When his wife raised the alarmed, the friends took to their heels fearing an attack from the neighbours.

The neighbours took him to Kenyenya Health Centre where he is recuperating.

Former Bokimonge Ward MCA George Bibao condemned over-indulgence by teachers who are expected to live exemplary lives, even as a number of teachers from the area termed the incident shameful and called for immediate correction.

“Let those teachers face internal reconciliatory punishment, talk over it and eat together to enable them forgive and forget,” one school head who did not want to be named said.
