Students from Bobasi subcounty in Kisii County have decried fraud, nepotism and favoritism exhibited by the subcounty’s NG-CDF committee when disbursing bursaries.
The students who study in different universities and colleges were speaking at Bobasi subcounty offices where they presented their grievances.
“The members allocate the funds to their children and relatives while genuine cases of orphans and people with disabilities are left unattended,” lamented Charles Ogega, a student.
They alleged that they were yet to benefit from the Constituency Bursary Funds despite applying multiple times.
Majority of the affected learners are from Kisii National Polytechnic and Kenyenya Teachers’ Training College.
They appealed to the area MP Innocent Obiri to intervene and seek accountability and transparency from the committee members.
In response, the MP asked them to identify the specific cases and refer them to his office for review.
He assured the students that the committee members were of high integrity and promised to look into the allegations levelled against them.
