East Africa is poised to take centre stage in the continent’s housing and infrastructure dialogue as it prepares to host the Africa Affordable and Sustainable Housing Initiative and Purpose-Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) Summit 2025.
The summit, slated for December 15–16, 2025, will take place in Nairobi, Kenya, under the timely theme: “Advancing Access to Decent, Affordable and Sustainable Housing for All.”
The gathering brings together a diverse array of stakeholders—including governments, financiers, private developers, academic institutions, and civil society actors—to address the continent’s escalating housing deficit, currently estimated to be between 50 and 97 million units.
“Affordable housing is not just a development issue — it’s a foundation for dignity, stability, and economic growth. We’re creating a platform that aligns innovation, policy, and finance to build real impact across Africa,” said Steve Munyao, Convener and Chair of the Organising Committee.
More than 60 expert speakers from across Africa and globally are expected to participate, with delegates drawn from over 20 countries. The programme will feature thematic sessions covering green building innovations, alternative construction technologies, financing models for affordable housing, public-private partnerships, and investment opportunities in student housing.

The summit will address the growing shortfall in student housing within African tertiary institutions, aligning with global trends in higher education infrastructure.
The summit will convene a diverse audience, including government officials, real estate developers, urban planners, financial institutions, development finance institutions, universities, architects, engineers, legal experts, and PropTech firms.
Participants will have the opportunity to speak, sponsor, exhibit, or partner during the event. They will enjoy premium speaking slots, brand visibility across media, access to exclusive investor match-making sessions, and high-level networking with decision-makers in housing, finance, and infrastructure.
With urban populations expanding and demand for tertiary education surging, East Africa is at a pivotal moment. Governments, private investors, and development partners are increasingly turning to green, scalable, and affordable solutions for housing challenges.
The summit will showcase real-world case studies from across the continent, including successful models from South Africa and Kenya, and explore how policy, technology, and finance can converge to accelerate the development of affordable housing and student accommodation.
Registration and sponsorship opportunities are now open.
