Students and teachers sensitized on TB precautions

Makueni ECM of health Paul Musila has sensitized both school children and teachers on how to stay alert on the Tuberculosi  (TB) disease.

Speaking at Matiliku market during World tuberculosis day, Musila revealed that at least 2200 new cases of tuberculosis are recorded each year representing 60 percent of the cases while 40 percent is never reported calling upon more sensitization.

The Health CEC also noted  the unreported cases are worrying since TB is an infectious disease calling upon people to go for early screening when they feel unwell saying, when one is diagnosed, the drugs are free and tuberculosis is a curable disease once the sick people follow instructions to the latter.

“I call upon our community health workers since they are the people who deal direct with the locals and know them better to help us in sensitizing and referring them to the hospital. We are ready to treat them,” Musila.

Musila reiterated that anyone can get TB but mostly it targets the productive age group from 20 to 50 years. He said there are labs and x-ray machines to detect all this in the hospital.

The world tuberculosis day is observed every year on 24 March to build public awareness on the global pandemic and how to alleviate it.

In 2018, 10 million people fell ill with TB, and 1.5 million died from it thus making it one of the leading cause of death from infectious disease.
