The protest, which began peacefully outside the offices of Members of County Assembly, spiraled into violence after security officers failed attempt to disperse the crowd. The situation deteriorated further when live ammunition was allegedly used against the demonstrators. Enraged by the shooting, students reportedly set fire to the Itibo Police Patrol Base and damaged properties at Bonyunyu Shopping Centre, Several police quarters were vandalized during the chaos, although authorities confirmed that no firearms had been taken from the facility.
