A secondary school student is nursing a broken arm and other injuries he sustained as he tried to rescue a car driver from a mob who wanted to lynch him after causing a road accident at at Getare Shopping Centre along the Kisii – Nyamira road in Nyamira county.
According to James Ong’era, an eye witness, the mob turned to the school boy who was sympathizing with the motorist and wanted to kill him but he was rescued by the Police and rushed to hospital.
He disclosed that trouble started when a local musician, Vicky Young also known as Ensanako, reportedly collided with a Bodaboda rider head on. His vehicle then veered off the road as he sped off after causing the death of six people, including two riders and a pedestrian on the spot.
“Ensanako seemed to be drunk as he drove without heeding to traffic rules. He sped off after realizing that he had committed the offence but his car rolled several times at Omogonchoro Centre where the mob took advantage to lynch him before he was rescued by Police.
The young blossoming musician sustained a few injuries but escaped unhurt.
Kisii County Police boss Charles Kesses confirmed the accident but could not ascertain the number of casualties affected.
“My police officers are assessing the situation before issuing a statement but the car was set on fire by the mob,” he said.
Kesses warned the public against taking the law into their hands but instead report such offences to the Police.
He appealed for sanity to prevail among the Bodaboda operators whom he said were too sensitive and reacted even at the slightest provocation.
