Makueni county Kenya Union of Post Primary Teachers (KUPPET) executive secretary Justus Kimeu has expressed concern over the stalemate in teachers’ promotion, saying that it should be addressed.
The Union official also called upon the parliament to allocate more funds to schools to rescue the normal operations from collapsing.
Kimeu while speaking at Makueni boys during the principals CEMASTEA training, further noted that the issue of scrapping off hardship allowance is still a thorn in the flesh especially in Makueni where, he said many teachers in marginalized areas are wondering what to do if it’s done away with.
“Makueni has not developed to the level that teachers will not get the hardship allowance. In fact the teachers here deserves an increase instead of decreasing it. They deserves more hardship allowance,” Kimeu said.

He thanked the government for offering CEMASTEA training on principals noting that it will help a lot.
“Now that we are in CBE era, it will help to produce learners who can apply that knowledge in their daily life,” he said.
On capitation, he expressed his worries that principals are being told not to send students home yet the funds are not being released accordingly adding that the government should be keen on release of capitation.
“We are wondering that teachers are being directed not to send students at home but there is no funds in school. Principals are running schools without money,” Kimeu added.
