Residents of Kobolwa and Kamureito areas in Sotik, Bomet County, are up in arms over deteriorating road conditions.

The residents lamented that the situation has greatly hampered learning activities and endangered the lives of learners.

Led by Ann Kirwa and Joyce Rono, they expressed frustration over the lack of action from local authorities despite repeated appeals.

“The poor state of the roads has made it extremely difficult for our children to get to school,” said Ann Kirwa during a press briefing on Monday. “They have to use long, winding routes, and some of these paths are not even safe, especially for the younger ones.”

The residents claimed that the dire conditions have not only delayed learning activities but also driven teachers away.

“Many teachers have requested transfers because of the road situation,” added Joyce Rono. “Lessons often start late because students arrive late. This is affecting the quality of education.”

According to the residents, the issue has been raised multiple times with no tangible response from local leadership. They are now calling on area Member of Parliament, Francis Sigei, to intervene.

“We were told funds had been allocated for road improvement in this area,” said Kirwa. “We want the MP to fulfill that promise. The community is tired of waiting.”

The residents have vowed to continue pushing for action until the roads are fixed, saying the future of their children depends on it.
