Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Commissioner Wilson Sossion has paid courtesy calls to the headquarters of the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) and the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), signalling a renewed push for stronger collaboration between the Commission and teachers’ unions.
During the visits, Sossion said the government was committed to promoting sound and lasting industrial relations and peace within the teaching service. He noted that the TSC’s vision of “attracting and retaining the most motivated, ethical and globally competitive teachers” could only be achieved in an environment where teachers feel respected, recognised and supported.
Sossion said the Government was embracing the political and democratic rights of teachers exercised through their representative unions, describing this as an important component in strengthening the teaching profession. He emphasised the need for mutual respect and recognition among the Government, TSC, teachers and their unions as the country seeks to improve the welfare and working environment of educators.

“The teaching service is on a grand march to Kenya Vision 2060,” Sossion said, underscoring the strategic role of teachers in driving the country’s long-term development agenda.
The courtesy calls come as the TSC and teachers’ unions continue to engage on matters affecting teachers, including welfare, professional development, working conditions and industrial relations. Sossion’s engagement with the two unions is expected to strengthen dialogue and cooperation between key stakeholders in the teaching service.
