About 10,047 needy learners from Nyeri County have benefited from Sh 40 million issued by

Nyeri county government’s Elimu Fund Bursary.

Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga said the bursary will benefit students from secondary schools, colleges, polytechnics, universities and special needs schools across the 30 wards in the county.

He spoke while presiding over the commissioning and disbursement of Elimu Fund bursaries for the financial year 2021/22.

He said the Sh 40 million was just the first batch of the bursary money to be given out this year and that in November, another Shs 60 million will be disbursed.

The county chief said the bursary will be distributed by sub-county administrators and Principal Education Officers in their respective sub-counties.

The governor said that it is the responsibility of the government to answer to the needs of the less privileged in the society.

He called on those who can manage to pay fees for their children to leave the bursaries to those who are really needy.

Nyeri county government has in the last four years disbursed bursaries worth Shs. 270 million to over 60,000 students.

An additional 180 students have benefitted from the Governor’s Scholarship programme, which supports two bright but needy students from every ward in the county .
