The Taita Taveta University staff and students have being engulfed into a somber mood following the death of Prof. Wilson Kipruto Cheruiyot, Dean of the School of Science and Informatics.
According to the University announcement, Prof. Cheruiyot died on Friday 13, while undergoing treatment at Karen Hospital in Nairobi, plunging the institution into mourning.
The university’s Deputy Vice Chancellor for Administration, Finance and Planning, Prof. Kiptanui J. A. Too, broke the sad news to staff in an internal memo on Sunday, describing the don’s death as untimely.

“It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of our colleague Prof. Wilson Kipruto Cheruiyot, PhD, who passed away on Friday, 13th February, 2026 while undergoing treatment at Karen Hospital,” reads part of the memo.
Prof. Cheruiyot had served the university since June 2022 and was credited with making significant contributions to the growth of the School of Science and Informatics.
Colleagues described him as a dedicated academician who touched many lives during his tenure at the institution.
The university administration said it would communicate funeral arrangements in due course, as the academic community continues to come to terms with the loss.
