Sironga Girls Principal denies involvement in KCSE malpractice

Sironga Girls National School Principal Eva Odhiambo has exonerated herself from alleged KCSE examination malpractice, wondering why she was arrested in the first place.

The statement she recorded at Manga Police station reveals how KNEC officers visited her school and searched the examination rooms.

“They allegedly found examination question papers and answer scripts in the rooms and confiscated them, then ordered me to accompany them to the police station,” she said.

Her statement contradicts the KNEC officer’s, who reported that he found a candidate in the toilet with a Mathematics paper and arrested her for interrogation.

The principal was released with her Nyambaria Boys counterpart Charles Onyari after police interrogated them.

West Mugirango MP Steve Mogaka has castigated the arrest, terming it arbitrary and insensitive to candidates.

“How can a student be picked from an examination room to go and record a statement with the police and return to continue with the examination?” he asked.

However, Mogaka called for sanity and appealed for calm to give the police time to investigate the matter independently.

He blamed KNEC for malice fueled by political enemies targeting particular schools, appealing to the CS for education Ezekiel Machogu and his PS Belio Kipsang to assure the public of the security of the examination.

Admitting that he does not compromise examination cheating, he appealed to candidates, teachers and parents of the implicated schools to remain calm as they continued with the examinations, but asked them to observe all examination decorum.
