Residents of Bomorenda Ward in Bonchari Constituency, Kisii County, are reeling in shock after two siblings, aged five and six, were brutally defiled and murdered in circumstances that have left the community shaken and fearful.

The victims, Bahati and Betty, both PP2 pupils, left their home for a mid‑morning walk at around 10:00 am but never returned. Hours of anxious searching by their parents ended in tragedy when the children were discovered dead, stuffed into a sack and dumped in a shallow hole.

Police officers from Gesonso Police Station were called to the scene and later transferred the bodies to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for post‑mortem examination and further investigations.

The killings have sparked outrage among local leaders and residents, who accuse security agencies of laxity in addressing rising crime in the area. Bonchari MCA John Batu condemned the incident, saying the murders exposed glaring failures in community policing. “It is inhuman for the young children’s lives to be cut short while security organs watch with ease,” he lamented.

Political leaders also weighed in, with aspiring Kisii County Woman Representative Roseline Nyakona describing the killings as “devilish.” She urged the government to strengthen laws against gender‑based violence and ensure perpetrators face the full force of justice.

Beyond the immediate horror, experts warn that child defilement and abuse carry devastating long‑term consequences. Survivors often suffer physical injuries, infections, and in some cases unwanted pregnancies. Psychologically, the trauma can manifest as depression, anxiety, fear, and low self‑esteem, affecting learning and social interaction for years.

Police have appealed to members of the public to share any information that could assist in the ongoing investigation.
