Chematich Comprehensive School in Silibwet Township Ward in Bomet County has registered only one candidate for the Grade 9 Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA) despite having a total enrolment of 55 learners across PP1 to Grade 9.

The school, situated in rural Bomet, is among a few institutions presenting a single candidate for the national assessment — a reality that reflects the enrollment and retention challenges facing some public junior schools in the region.

Teachers at the school expressed optimism that the lone candidate will perform exceptionally well.

One of the teachers noted that despite the low candidature, teachers have been dedicated to offering personalized attention and support to ensure academic success.

“We believe in quality learning. Our candidate has received close guidance and we are confident they will excel,” the teacher said.

The school continues to encourage parents to enroll and retain learners in the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) system.

As the students continue with the national exams, the school community wishes them success and hopes their performance will inspire more learners to pursue their junior secondary education at Chematich.
