Residents of Sameta Sub-county in Kisii are reeling in shock after Dr Desree Moraa Obwogi allegedly committed suicide at her workplace in Gatundu County Hospital.
According to her colleagues, Dr Obwogi who was an intern could not withstand the pressure amid the rough conditions in the hospital.
A statement released by the medical intern fraternity of Kenya says Dr Obwogi had worked for 36 hours without relief and she had no money to buy food.

She reportedly hanged herself on the balcony on the fourth floor of her room for which she could not afford to offset rental bills.
A Kisii-based mental health consultant and anti-Gender Based Violence (GBV) crusader Dr Magfalune Gesare called for the youth to speak up instead of boiling inside quietly until they burst tragically by killing themselves.
“A problem shared is a problem half-solved; let our people try to be open to one another in order to save us from the ever increasing cases of suicide in society,” she said.
She regretted that the incident occurred one week after the national mental health sensitization campaign.
Following the death, doctors and medical interns have announced to honour her by not attending duty for 36 hours to enable them mourn their own who died in the line of duty.
