Shock as Bondobe Primary School dormitory burns down

By Enock Okong’o

Parents, teachers and pupils of Bondobe Primary School in Bogichora ward of Nyamira County are counting big losses after a dormitory was gutted down by great fire.

According to the school’s administration, the fire broke out on Tuesday afternoon and consumed a dormitory that hosted 68 pupils.

Confirming the incident, Area Assistant County Commissioner Mr. Peter Ndirangu said that there was no casualties.

The administrator said that the police had began investigations on the cause of the fire that caused an estimated damage of 8 million shillings.

“We are yet to ascertain the cause of the fire but we suspect faulty electrical connection,” he said.

He assured the parents of their children’s  safety at the school because security measures had already  been put in place.

Mr. Ndirangu appealed to County and National governments, NGOs and well-wishers to visit the institution and assist the pupils with amenities they lost in the fire.

“Everything went down in flames. The pupils have to start buying mattresses, blankets and other personal effects for continuity. They need your help.” he appealed.
