Schools has been encouraged to participate in the just announced Athletics Kenya (AK) Murang’a County annual Cross Country Championships, which will take place on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at Maragua Township Primary School.
According to the organisers, the event is opened to schools, clubs, institutions, and individual athletes, offering a platform for both upcoming and seasoned runners to showcase their endurance and speed.
The competition will as well double as the official qualifier for the Central Region Cross Country Championships, making it one of the most important races on the county’s athletics calendar.
According to AK Murang’a officials, the championships are designed to identify, nurture, and expose talent from across the county.
“By bringing together a broad mix of competitors, the event aims to create a pipeline of athletes who can progress to regional, national, and even international competitions.” He said.

There will be categories for different age groups and levels, ensuring inclusivity and equal opportunity for all runners.
Local schools have been urged to mobilize their students to take part, while athletics clubs and institutions are also expected to field strong teams.
Participants are encouraged to arrive early for registration, which will be done at the venue on the morning of the competition.
The AK representatives emphasized the importance of the competition in preparing athletes for the upcoming athletics season.
