Schools set for exciting co-curricular activities next month

National Drama and Film Festival will hold at Afraha High School in Nakuru County.

With various educational events geared toward developing talent, encouraging innovation, and encouraging teamwork, April 2025 is expected to be a busy month for students around Kenya.

Students will demonstrate their abilities in various fields at events ranging from national sporting championships and science fairs to drama and film festivals. Below is a summary of the activities.

Secondary Schools Sports (Under 18)

  • Dates: April 5 – 13, 2025

  • Activities: Rugby 15s, Basketball 5×5, Athletics, Hockey, Handball, Cross Country, Swimming

  • Location: Mombasa County

  • Opening Ceremony: April 7 at Shanzu Teachers Training College (TTC)

  • Closing Ceremony: April 12 at Shanzu TTC

  • Departure: April 13

2. Kenya Science and Engineering Fair

  • Dates: April 6th – 12, 2025

  • Location: Kangaru High School, Embu County

  • Focus: Showcasing innovative STEM projects by students

  • Opening Ceremony: April 7 at Kangaru High School

  • Action Days: April 8 – 11

  • Closing Ceremony: April 11 at Kangaru High School

  • Departure: April 12

3. National Drama and Film Festival

  • Dates: April 7 – 19, 2025

  • Location: Afraha High School, Nakuru County

  • Opening Ceremony: April 8 at Afraha High School

  • Action Days: April 8 – 14

  • Gala Concert: April 15 – 16

  • State Concert: April 18

  • Departure: April 19

4. Junior Schools (Under 15)

  • Dates: April 5 – 12 2025

  • Activities: Athletics, Cross-Country, Basketball 5×5, Rugby 7s, Swimming

  • Location: Mombasa County

  • Opening Ceremony: April 7 at Shanzu TTC

  • Action Days: April 8 – 11th

  • Closing Ceremony: April 11 at NYS Grounds, Likoni

  • Departure: April 12

5. Primary Schools (Under 12)

  • Dates: April 5 – 12, 2025

  • Activities: Athletics, Kids Athletics, Gymnastics, Cross Country

  • Location: Mombasa County

  • Opening Ceremony: April 7 at Shanzu TTC

  • Action Days: April 8 – 11

  • Closing Ceremony: April 11 at NYS Grounds, Likoni

  • Departure: April 12

6. Primary Special Schools Athletics

  • Dates: April 5th – 12th, 2025

  • Location: Mombasa County

  • Opening Ceremony: April 7 at Shanzu TTC

  • Action Days: April 8th – 11 at Ziwani School for the Deaf

  • Closing Ceremony: April 11 at Ziwani School for the Deaf

  • Departure: April 12

These events allow students to develop their physical, creative, and intellectual abilities while promoting teamwork and cultural appreciation.
