A Form three boy student at St Paul’s Tombe Mixed Secondary School in North Mugirango Constituency is nursing wounds in hospital after he was beaten and injured by his brothers for allegedly disobeying their mother.

Trouble started when his reportedly drunk mother asked him to fetch water from the river for her, but he told her to wait a little as he was copying school notes.

That was when the annoyed mother called for help from her brothers-in-law to teach the boy a lesson.

They tied his hands and started to beat him in turns as his mother encouraged them to continue flogging him.

The boy, identified as Stanislaus Nyauma Obare from Kamwarani village in Bokurati 1 sub—location, caused a public uproar and accused the location administration of not reporting crimes such as this to the nearest police station for action.

“There are many crime cases here that go unnoticed by the police. We are just surviving by the mercy of God,” said resident Peter Mong’are.

The assaulted boy said that he reported the matter to the Ekerenyo Police Station, but they told him to go to the hospital to get treatment and then go back to record the statement.

When he talked to  Education News as he lay in an open field at Ekerenyo Hospital waiting for his turn at the hospital, he complained of severe headaches and bruises on the legs and his private parts, including his buttocks.

He appealed to anyone who knew the Principal of his school to come to his rescue and inform him of the incident.

“He knows me well; please let him inform the police to save me from the cruel hands of my quarrelsome mother, who drinks heavily and causes commotion in the whole family,” he said.

A school watchman at his institution said he knew the boy, but he declined to comment more about him and referred this writer to the Principal, who could not be reached on the phone as he was out of school on other official duties.
