A major transformation in the education sector is on the horizon in Hamisi Constituency, in Vihiga County after the Safaricom Foundation awarded Cheptech Secondary School Ksh59 million grant aimed at improving infrastructure and enhancing access to quality learning facilities.

The project is expected to significantly uplift education standards in the area by expanding learning opportunities and creating a more conducive environment for students and teachers alike.

Speaking during the announcement of the initiative, Hamisi MP Charles Gimose described the investment as a landmark achievement that would positively shape the future of learners in the constituency.

Gimose said the development demonstrates the importance of collaborative leadership and partnerships in improving social services and empowering communities through education.

“This project is a clear indication that when leaders and stakeholders work together, we can transform the future of our children through quality education,” said Gimose.

The MP emphasized that education remains one of the key pillars of development and urged leaders and stakeholders to continue prioritizing investments that empower young people through knowledge and skills.

He praised the school board, parents, teachers, and local leaders for their commitment towards improving education standards, noting that the successful acquisition of the funding was made possible through teamwork and collective determination.

According to the project details, the school will benefit from the construction and equipping of nine classrooms for Grade 10 to Grade 12 learners in line with the implementation of the Competency-Based Education.

The institution will also receive a modern 40-seater ICT laboratory aimed at improving digital literacy and equipping learners with technological skills needed in the modern world.

In addition, twin science laboratories for Physics, Chemistry and Biology will be constructed to strengthen science education and provide students with practical learning opportunities.

The project further includes the construction of an administration block with capacity for 18 teachers, a move expected to improve efficiency and create a better working environment for staff.

Other facilities to be developed include a kitchen, 12-door pit latrines for boys and girls, and water infrastructure with a storage capacity of 50,000 litres to support sanitation and other school activities.

Landscaping works will also be undertaken within the institution to improve the school environment and make it more attractive and conducive for learning.

Leaders expressed optimism that the improved facilities would lead to increased enrollment, improved academic performance, and better transition rates for learners in the constituency.

Gimose noted that once completed, the project would position Cheptech Secondary School among the leading learning institutions in the constituency and serve as a model for other schools in the region.
