Girls in Bungoma County will benefit from free sanitary towels and pads from the National Government Affirmative Action Fund NGAAF through the department of youths and gender starting from this term.
Speaking at Cardinal Otunga Girls High school during the launch of the programme, that will benefit girls from class 5 to form 4, Bungoma County Women Representative and KUPPET National Gender Secretary Catherine Wambilianga, said this will ensure that the girl-child remains in school at all times.
Wambilianga noted girls from poor backgrounds have been forced to miss classes for even two weeks due to lack of the pads affecting their performance.
She said the sanitary towels and pads are to benefit thousands of girls in public primary schools. Over 70,000 girls in secondary schools in Bungoma County will also benefit.
Bungoma County Director of Education Jacob Onyengo said the programme would ensure girls in the county concentrate more on their studies.
